HSU: A democratic union for Health Professionals

0
Several factors as excessive work pressure, unsafe conditions, bullying, sudden roster changes & more can pose a threat to your well being at workplace. As a healthcare professional working for private or public health, aged care, ambulance or disability service, it’s important that you have a democratic and reliable union that safeguards your rights and is accountable to its members.

So, if you are someone who works for public or private health, aged care or ambulance service, it’s important that you become a part of HSU or the Health Services Union.

HSU has been associated with several campaigns that contribute to a better and healthier life for health professionals.

Ambulance Paramedics:

Underfunding on part of the NSW government has taken its toll on paramedics. If we compare the increase in paramedic numbers as opposed to increase in population, the picture is gloomy. HSU is constantly working towards increasing ambulance staffing. Be it union meetings, rallies or social media initiatives using Facebook, HSU is striving hard to address the issue.

Raising awareness about Bullying:

Workplace bullying is a common problem and HSU is working at combating the problem through educating and informing members so that it can be stamped out completely.

The idea is to treat every health care staff with dignity and respect. For this the members are asked to sign a declaration and put it up across notice boards for everyone to see.

Here are some of the benefits HSU members enjoy:

Journey Insurance:

Do you have any insurance that offers protection when you travel to work? HSU’s Journey Insurance does exactly that. In the year 2012, the NSW Liberal government made law reforms that withdrew insurance cover that earlier protected workers travelling to and from work. The Health Services Union has strived hard and got it back for its members!!

Under this, you will get support in case you suffer loss of income due to an injury or accident on your way to or from work.

As a member of the Health Services Union, you can get up to 85% of your weekly wage or up to a maximum of $1500 every week. Besides these, the HSU also offers bereavement benefits and other injury based payment for its members.

Death /Bereavement benefits:

The family of a deceased HSU member is offered $10,000 to be used for any household or urgent expenses. This comes across as a huge help at times of distress.

Free Will

Looking to getting a will? HSU’s experienced legal solicitors can help you get the most apt one and that too without any charge.

Indemnity insurance: Yes, it comes as part of HSU membership and you need not pay anything extra for it.

Industrial guidance:

Not only does HSU protect you from workplace bullying and safeguard your work related rights, it also provides you any kind of industrial support at times of need.
