We all know that the health & aged care system in Australia functions due to the hard oil and constant effort of health workers. The HSU or union for healthcare workers covers people working in food services, security, cleaning, maintenance, clerical and administration, labs, medical records, nuclear medicine pharmacy and more. It includes all of allied health and professional staff, professionals in dentistry, physiotherapy, dietetics, physiotherapy as well as those in finance and IT.

Most of the staff in aged heath care, disabilities and private hospitals are covered under HSU except for registered nurses.

Journey Insurance:

If you are a member of the Heath Services Union NSW, you are eligible for the Journey Insurance. Under Journey Insurance, HSU supports you in case you meet with an accident and lose your job due to injury to work or on your way back. Under Journey Insurance,  members are provided an income support that is upto 85% of your weekly wages to a maximum of 1500 dollars every week.

The NSW government had taken this right away in 2012 but the HSU with its constant effort has given it back to its members.

Get A Free Will or Legal Services:


HSU Members are entitled to free initial general legal advice on any matter outside of employment. They are also provided discounts on legal services as family law and private legal disputes.
 
Family Law matters include negotiations and litigations. Discounts are offered in case of conveyancing matters as well.

$10,000 Bereavement Benefit

In case of death of an HSU Member, the union offers a financial help of $10,000 to the family. The payment is offered to the next of the kin and can be used for any immediate expense from paying outstanding bills or funeral expenses. The health services union ensures your family has some monetary support in case something happens to you.

New members- within 24 months of HSU Membership- get an accidental coverage. After completion of the 24 hour period, members are covered for any cause of death and that includes pre-existing diseases as well. A member while joining must be less than 67 years old and the benefits cease once a member is over 70.

Book vouchers and Education Incentive

In case you wish to study or have a child who goes to school, HSU members are eligible to participate in a ballot for Union’s Education Incentive Scholarships that help you to buy books. The HSU every year offers 500 education incentives of $50 each to members.
