The Health
Services Union is a community of health professionals, allied health
workers and aged care workers. So, whether you work in public health,
private health, disability or ambulance service you could become a
member of HSU. Except for registered nurses, HSU covers workers in
aged care, disabilities, medical records, labs, dietetics, dentistry,
occupational therapy, finance as well as IT.
Allied health
workers form an integral part of the public health system in
Australia. They include qualified technical and support staff who
deliver high quality patient care, diagnostics, rehabilitation and
other health improvement interventions to maintain optimal physical,
cognitive, social and physiological functions.
HSU’s campaign for Ambulance Paramedics
Underfunding on
the part of government has had a grave effect on paramedics in
Australia. While there was been a significant rise in population, the
number of paramedics have not increased in the last ten years. The
Health Services Union has long been involved in the Ambulance union
mission to boost ambulance staffing in NSW. Join hands with NSU in
our fight to increase the number of paramedics.
Journey Insurance for Health Professionals
As a health and
aged care worker, you contribute significantly to the society. What
happens if you suffer loss of income while going to work? The NSW
laws had nullified Journey Insurance for health professionals. HSU
with its constant effort has managed to win it back for its members.
So as a Health Service Union member, in case you get injured and are
exposed to loss of income while travelling to work or on your journey
back home – you are eligible for the Journey Insurance.
The existing
members are covered under the Journey Insurance at no additional
cost.
Bereavement
Benefit of $10,000
The HSU provides
financial assistance to the family of the deceased. New members are
covered for accidental death during the first 24 months of joining.
Later on, allied health workers and health professionals are covered
regardless of the cause of death which includes pre-existing
illnesses as well. Please know that the benefit is not valid for
members over 70 years of age. Also any member joining the union after
October 1, 2014 must be less than 67 years of age to be covered under
this policy.
HSU’s We All
Matter Campaign
Australia enjoys
a high class health system because of the efforts and passionate work
of healthcare workers. It is important to make sure that they receive
the respect they deserve. HSU’s “We All Matter” is a tour
spanning across the state so that each and every HSU member can
highlight their stories. Let your community know about unseen and
unheard stories so that they know how and why you matter.
